Entering the Beta
Beta Build
We at Elker Studios have been working hard this past week to squash bugs and focus on interesting moments. We hope you'll enjoy this new iteration.
What's New
- Revamped enemy spawner system to a wave based system
- Projectile Enemy
- Hub World upgrade with designer stone walls and velvety red paint job. (And yes the brush is now interactable)
- World exploration! Finished paintings are yours to explore! Go nearly anywhere!
- Upgraded health system
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed palette showing too many colors when putting down and picking up brush again in tutorial world.
- Fixed issue of grayscale remaining active when going back to studio and upon completion of level.
- Fixed issue where restarting the tutorial after completion of level one would restart all progress in game.
- Fixed guidance hands being effected by gravity and appearing in the wrong place.
- Fixed the issue of enemy artifacts appearing on the painting canvas.
- Made the level properly restart when a player wishes it.
- Putting down the brush and picking it back up no longer automatically restarts the level.
- The player could teleport too far in the hub world, allowing them to be essentially within the canvas which forced them to auto enter the level, which felt too jarring.
- Fixed aesthetics of tutorial world.
Discussion
In our alpha build there was a punishing positive feedback loop during gameplay. If the player was injured it was very hard to recover. Because of this we have completely revamped the enemy spawner system to have moments of downtime, and have fixed colors disappearing. We hope the moments of downtime will encourage the player to take in the scenery. The new enemy type was created to add a layer of strategy to the rounds as well as force the player to look up from their color palette.
What's Next
Next week we will be releasing a new build. Expect there to be new levels, an introduction of features from our previous builds at different points in the game, and an original storyline connecting the levels. Next week expect to see major aesthetic improvements. Only 2 more weeks until launch!
